Whether you’re looking for a strenuous workout, or a leisurely ride, you’ll find a variety of biking opportunities in the Lake Placid/High Peaks Region.

What Type of Biking is for You?

Road Biking:
Ride fast…streets and sidewalks but not rugged trails. Bikes are built for speed. Similar to the racing bikes that race in the Tour de France (and the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon). These bikes can be used for either racing or just riding around. Lightweight with drop handlebars, narrow seat and strong, narrow tires.

Touring:
Nice, easy riding. If you are not necessarily into rugged trails and not a racer. A touring bike gives a smoother ride. It’s a combination mountain bike and road bike. Made for rough bike paths and for light off road riding. Comfortable upright riding. Lightweight with fairly large tires.

Mountain Biking:
You can ride almost anywhere…easy on rough terrain including dirt roads, mountains etc. but also on street roads and other smooth surfaces…can ride on practically anything. Sturdy frame. Bike has up to 21 speeds. Wide, knobby tires for ride over rough terrain. Flat handlebars.
