This popular crag has gained its reputation for its wide variety of climbs, including some Adirondack classics. Easy toprope and trad routes in a wide grade range make this great for most skill levels, and several cliffs within the crag allow you to spread out and explore away from other climbers.
How to get there
From Lake Placid, head south on Rt. 73 toward Keene. Pass through the towns of Keene and Keene Valley to the pull-off on your right. If you reach the parking for Chapel Pond, you have gone too far.
By the numbers
The trail to top of the crag begins just past the northern end of the park area, and it takes roughly 10 minutes depending on your group size and speed. Follow the creek up the steep hill and around the switchback to continue up the stairs to the top.
Rock climbing
With countless climbs to choose from, varying widely in difficulty and style, this area is a go-to for local and visiting climbers alike. As with any climbing area, a guide book or topo should be consulted for proper preparation before climbing.
