Wilmington's Story: The First 200 Years, in timeline form, attempts to capture the details of Wilmington’s journey through time, with memories, photos and surprises for everyone.

The Town of Wilmington, New York, celebrating its 200th Anniversary in 2022, has created a historical Bicentennial Timeline! Although it has never had a population of more than 1300, Wilmington has an impressive historical record compared to others its size.

You will be sure to find farmers, flies, and fishermen; industrialists, heroes, photographers, politicians, and presidents; artists, dreamers, writers, explorers, and Olympians; bikers and hikers; good ole’ Adirondack creativity, and a great love for our natural beauty of the AuSable River and surrounding mountains and lakes… all while maintaining small town charm and appeal.

The Wilmington Historical Society, chartered by the State of New York in 2003 and comprised entirely of volunteers, has undertaken the task of compiling this more than 200-year timeline interspersed with photographs of images that originate from archival, individual and public sources covering the period from 1790 to the present. We reach out to you to become a part of this ongoing effort to preserve the history of our unique town as we move forward.
