The Senior Pro Golf Tour is coming to Lake Placid and openings are still available for the pro-am.
The Sunbelt Senior Tour which is the largest Senior Golf Tour in the US under the Champions Tour will be in Lake Placid at the pristine Whiteface Club & Resort from August 29th through September 1st, 2011. The event is really taking shape with some large sponsors signing on in order to make the event successful and ensure it is a multi year event for the Lake Placid Community.
Recently Select Sotheby's, NBT Bank and US Foods have all joined in with significant contributions to the event and charity. They join the Whiteface Lodge, Northwoods Inn, Whiteface Club Resort, and Brickhouse Direct as existing full level sponsors along with a number of local businesses whom have purchased hole sign sponsorships in support of the ADK Carousel, the local charity of the event.
"We are proud to have all of the support form these sponsors for this event and very worthy charity" according to Tom Eubank who is the tournament director. "We anticipate this being a multi year event with significant growth each year in size and scope of the pro-am which will draw players from a 200 mile radius in the future. We believe within a few short years we can grow this into one of Lake Placid' top events bringing in hotel rooms and business for the entire week."
There will be a "Golf Short Game Exhibition" on Monday August 29th at 5:00 pm that is open to the public for free. The professionals are also offering hands on instruction for free to all juniors 18 and under and major sponsors that would like to come out. At 6:10 pm Steve Thomas, Champions Tour Long Driver in 2009, will be doing a long drive exhibition at the first tee right behind the clubhouse. Then at 6:30 pm there will be a cocktail party where players, professionals, sponsors and the general public can mingle and support the ADK Carousel with their silent auction. Players and sponsors are free but the general public is welcome for a nominal fee of $25 which includes food and one cocktail. This is a great way for non golfers to support the event and the ADK Carousel.

The 54 hole championship will conclude on Thursday September 1st where the Adirondack Senior Open Champion will be crowned. The winner will earn $5,000 for his efforts while the real winner is expected to be the charity. The Whiteface Club & Resort promises to be a challenge for the Senior Professionals with many holes offering risk reward situations. The 18th hole should prove to be a great finishing hole with water right and left on the tee shot but for the daring professional who splits the fairway he should be able to get home in two on this beautiful par five with a view of Whiteface Mountain as you stroll up the fairway.
This will also be a favorite spot for spectators as they can sit on the patio at the club and enjoy a fresh drink while watching the 18th green which is right beside the clubhouse. Spectators are welcome at the Whiteface Club Resort at no charge. Please contact www.whitefaceclubresort.com for more information or call 518-523-2551.
