[img:LPcelArts.jpg]LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS USA — The first annual Lake Placid Celebration of the Arts opens at noon Friday, October 7th at the CONFERENCE CENTER AT LAKE PLACID, 2608 Main Street, Lake Placid, NY and continues through the Columbus Day weekend, closing on Sunday Oct. 9, 2011.

Produced by SunStorm Arts Publishing Co., Inc., publishers of Fine Art Magazine, the Celebration of the Arts will be like the pages of the magazine come to life with an art exhibition, music, poetry readings, film screenings, photography, and a special appearance by Dr. Bill Akpinar, founder of the University of Health and Spiritual Sciences.

In addition to the art exhibition, which will be open free to the public daily October 7, 8, and 9 from noon - 6:00 p.m., there will be concerts each evening as follows:

  • Friday, October 7: GHISLAIN DION (Celine's sister) singing blues and jazz beginning at 7:30 ($20 admission) followed by an open mic jam session and reggae dance party;
  • Saturday October 8 at 8:00 p.m the heralded blues/rock icons SAVOY BROWN featuring KIM SIMMONDS, with local stalwarts Roadside Mystic and Kansas City born blues harmonica maestro Frank Latorre also on the bill ($25 admission) just moved to the 1932 arena!
  • Sunday Oct. 9 there will be a "Tribute to John Lennon Peace Concert" starring Heidi Little from Saranac Lake via Canada and a recording session at Willie Nelson's studio in Texas and a long stint at #1 on the prog radio music charts. In addition all day Sunday there will be an open mic for singers and musicians to play/sing their favorite Lennon and Beatle songs for the benefit of fund-raising groups.

Among the films being shown are BOB MARLEY: THE MAKING OF A LEGEND, a documentary by Esther Anderson and Gian Godoy shot in the early 1970s and Matilijah Magic a documentary in the works about the rock duo Delaney and Bonnie.

On exhibit for all three days will be works by artists from Montreal, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and the Hamptons along with a collection of banners created by Artists for Peace and the Environment originally shown at Woodstock '99 in Rome, NY.
