Fundraiser for Can Do MS kicks off September 18

MS Global 2016, a seven day annual charitable bicycle tour founded by retired professional cyclist Tyler Hamilton to make a difference for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS), will be held in the mountains of Lake Placid, N.Y. from Sept. 18 to Sept. 25. Taking place in a new scenic location each year, this weeklong cycling event benefits Can Do MS, a national nonprofit that changes the lives of people living with MS through educational programs on exercise, nutrition, and symptom management that inspire long-lasting change. The organization honors the legacy of founder Jimmie Heuga, Olympic medalist skier and a pioneer in the MS care management field who was diagnosed with MS in 1970.

This year, 28 fundraising riders including seven riders with MS will pedal approximately 300 miles over seven days to raise over $180,000 for Can Do MS.

"We always looked forward to the day when we would support the organization Jimmie founded,” said Hamilton’s father Bill, Producer for MS Global. “That time is now, and we take great pleasure in helping Can Do MS continue with the mission that was Jimmie Heuga's dream."

"My dad and I are so excited to bring MS Global 2016 to Lake Placid. The energy and inspiration of being in a former Olympic games location ties our efforts of supporting Can Do MS together,” said Tyler Hamilton, who will be in Lake Placid as a ride leader. “It is pure inspiration to see our own riders with MS challenge themselves on the mountainous terrain surrounding Lake Placid, fulfilling the dream of my friend Jimmie Heuga. These riders prove that people living with the disease should not allow it to define who they are!"

For the past 13 years, MS Global has helped people with MS and increased visibility for MS at each year’s host location. Previous tours have been located in Europe, Canada, and numerous scenic and challenging locations in the United States. Participants include cycling enthusiasts from across the country who pledge to fundraise a minimum of $3,700 each or $5,550 per couple with 100% of proceeds directly benefiting Can Do MS.

This year, High Peaks Cyclery will host a meet and greet with Tyler Hamilton on Tuesday, September 20th from 5-7pm. This event is free to the public and we encourage all to attend! Light refreshments will be served and attendees will also have the chance to talk with MS Global riders.

MS Global 2016 is hosted by Tyler Hamilton Training and generously supported by sponsors
EMD Serono, Biogen, CCL Label, Magtek, Clif Bar, Houston Pilots, and others.
