"Boating On Lake Champlain Shows Decided Increase"

Aug. 4, 1933--Lake Champlain is at last becoming a Mecca for boat owners, judging from the large number of craft of all descriptions which are seen daily plying the waters of the lake. Large and small craft from all parts of the country make daily stops at the pier of the Crown Point State Park, where the boat owners visit this delightful recreation and historic center on the lake. Other ports along the lake are also visited by these craft. On Saturday a large two master sailing yacht was moored at the Crown Point pier for several hours, while the occupants visited the forts. This is the first of its kind seen on the lake in years. It is no doubt that the increase in boating on Lake Champlain has been brought about by the extensive campaign waged by the Champlain Valley Council. Aside from the number of foreign boats on the lake it is also noticeable the great interest being manifested in boating by residents along the lake. Only a few years ago very few boats plied the lake, owned by local people. Today there are many boats on the lake owned by local residents. On Sunday, at Port Henry, sixteen motor and outboard boats as well as sailboats were counted either anchored in the harbor near the Foote boathouse, or moored to the dock, while several were running about the lake being tossed about on the waves of a stiff northwester.
