Activity at the museum is increasing as everyone bustles about preparing for opening day (May 26). One of our interns, Kaleigh, and I have been working on a temporary exhibit, the focus of which is an amazingly detailed handcrafted model of a cabin, barn, and carriage shed.

The model was created by Thomas M. Barber (1939-2006) of Keeseville, NY.  He had a passion for building models of early American structures and the cabin and barns were meticulously crafted with numerous intricate details, including furniture, kitchenware, food sacks, firewood, wagons, and an outhouse. It is truly an amazing piece of work. Tom Barber then went on to write his novel "The Cabin by the Creek", telling the story of a 19th century family based on his own childhood memories. The book is available in the museum bookstore and the cabin will be on exhibit along with related domestic and farming items from the museum's collection.  We invite you to come and see the exhibit in full this season.
