LAKE PLACID, ADIRONDACKS USA  – February 19 will be a day to remember, as the public, along with local politicians, will have the chance to blast down a frozen ramp at speeds over 35 MPH in an all-out effort for glory at the Rock 105 Adirondack International Toboggan Championships and Mayors Cup, presented by Saranac and Lake Placid Craft Brewing.

The general public will be vying for nearly $3,000 in prizes, including cash, airline tickets, hotel rooms in Lake Placid, Whiteface ski passes and more, while mayors from around New York State will race for community pride. Teams of four will take two runs down the course. The winners will be determined by who glides the farthest on frozen Mirror Lake.

Sponsored by ROCK105, Saranac and Lake Placid Craft Brewing, the toboggan championship is a benefit for USA Luge. The action will take place at the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute, located next to Mirror Lake. The chute is dedicated to Gerald F. Cassidy, who led the effort to build the structure in the 1960s.

The toboggan championship consists of two different competitions, the first of which is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. The Mayor's Cup will feature local mayors, supervisors and other elected officials competing in teams of four. The Mayor's Cup, which was hugely popular in the 1960's and 70's, was resurrected last year as a part of the Rock 105 Adirondack International Toboggan Championships.

Following the Mayor's Cup, the general public will get to compete in teams of four for the Gerald Cassidy Memorial Toboggan Trophy. A host of prizes will also be awarded, including round-trip airfare, ski passes, hotel stays in Lake Placid, cash and medals.

Entry fees are $10 per person or $40 per sled. All proceeds will benefit USA Luge. Registration for the event begins at 2 p.m.
