Wander around Main Street and you'll come across diverse art galleries that have photographs, paintings, ceramics, and everything in-between on display and for sale.

Mirror Lake

Part of what makes Lake Placid's Main Street so enchanting in winter is the way it hugs the snow-covered shores of Mirror Lake. Beautiful in every season, the lakeside views are especially magical this time of year, with the frozen lake surrounded by snow-draped mountains and twinkling lights reflecting off the ice. There are many ways to enjoy the lake during the winter months:

  • Go for a winter walk. A 2.7-mile sidewalk loops around the lake, perfect for a crisp, leisurely stroll amidst the serene winter landscape.
  • Take a hike. Follow the snow-packed sidewalk to the trailhead for Cobble Hill, a small mountain offering stunning winter views of Lake Placid and the High Peaks.
  • Skate on the ice. Glide across the lake on ice skates or join the fun at the public skating loop, a quintessential winter experience.
  • Relax by the lake. Mid's Park, in the heart of Main Street, offers cozy Adirondack chairs where you can sip hot cocoa, watch the snowflakes fall, and soak in the peaceful winter beauty of Mirror Lake.
  • Try dog sledding. Experience the thrill of a dog sled ride across the frozen surface of Mirror Lake, a unique winter adventure that combines excitement and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
