For nearly 100 years the Olympic legacy has burned bright in this little mountain town, but the party isn't over! Besides being the only place to host two Winter Olympic games, Lake Placid has hosted a pluthera of World Cup events annually and will be the site of the 2023 World University Games!

For the first time since 1972, Lake Placid will be home to the World University Games. A tradition spanning over 60 years, this great competition brings together athletes from all over the world, creating a unique atmosphere of blended cultures, athleticism, and teamwork that you can feel in the air when you watch these great athletes compete. Athletes ages 17-25 compete from over 600 universities; many have gone on to have illustrious Olympic careers after taking their place at the World University Games. Lake Placid is no stranger to the high stakes of competition, the thrill of the crowds, or the excitement of monumental athletic wins. Since hosting the Olympics, Lake Placid has become a reliable host for all things winter sports. From training world-renowned winter athletes, to hosting World Cup events, Lake Placid continues to champion for winter athletes all over!

Visit any of the Lake Placid Legacy Sites to try your hand at winter Olympic sports. Take a ride down a bobsled track, cross-country ski at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, skate on the Olympic Speed Skating Oval, take a scenic gondola and elevator ride to the top of the Ski Jumps, or take a gondola ride up Whiteface Mountain. You don't have to be a pro to be an champion here in Lake Placid!
