A trip to Lake Placid is not complete without a hike or two, and we say this because choosing just one is tough. Still, what goes up must come down and eventually you’ll have worked up a satiable appetite. Besides, after all that hard work, you deserve a feast! Whether craving greasy pub food or in the mood for something more refined, these five Lake Placid restaurants will hit the spot.

The Cottage

77 Mirror Lake Dr.

The Cottage may sound like a low-key joint, but it's actually one of Lake Placid's most popular hangouts. No matter when you visit, whether it’s in the hot summer or cold winter, there are clear views of Mirror Lake and the Great Range of the High Peaks. The decor is just as impressive: imagine wood-burning fireplaces inside paired with a casual outdoor deck with comfortable seating. Stop by for lunch, dinner or drinks. Feeling a bit indulgent? Fear not! There's a spa on-site to soothe those sore muscles.

Simply Gourmet

1983 Saranac Ave.

After a morning hike, you might not want to undo all your good work with a burger and fries. Pay homage to the trails and try one of Simply Gourmet’s 46 fresh and flavorful sandwich options named after the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks (only those 4,000 ft. or higher). Options include the mouthwatering Gothics (roast beef, caramelized onion, blue cheese and horseradish mayo) and the vegetarian East Dix with cheddar, avocado, onion and tomato. Their second location, Big Mountain Deli, is on Main Street.

Lake Placid Pub and Brewery

813 Mirror Lake Dr.

While drinking and hiking is never a good combination, there’s nothing wrong with grabbing a cool beer after hitting the trails. In addition to beer on tap and seasonal selections, the pub and brewery has an extensive menu of delicious standard pub grub—as well as healthier options and seasonal offerings. All the staples like cheeseburgers, BBQ ribs, and fish and chips make the cut, plus a few local favorites like the maple melt (a charbroiled chicken sandwich with maple cheddar cheese) and pulled-pork sandwich served with fries and broccoli slaw. Chow down on the outside deck overlooking Mirror Lake or keep cool in the tented beer garden.

Smoke Signals

2489 Main St.

Eager to sample the food along Main Street? Look no further than Smoke Signals. The menu is a mix of classic BBQ staples and more innovative dishes. The place opens most days at 4 p.m., making this ideal for longer hikes that take up most of the day. Everything here is made from scratch and many items are low-and-slow-smoked barbecue. The views of Mirror Lake and the High Peaks are an added bonus. Music lovers should stop by during the lively lineups that feature local, regional and national talent.

Artisans

144 Lodge Way

Artisans Restaurant is a Lake Placid staple when it comes to fresh, seasonal cuisine, and the view isn't bad either. The four-course menu changes daily and dishes are inspired by the local scenery. Speaking of the scenery, you'll have an unobstructed view of Whiteface Mountain. The one hitch is that this is a dinner-only spot and smart casual dress is recommended. In other words, it's the perfect reward for a hike well done.
