What's new in Lake Placid

“Wow, you’re from Lake Placid?” was a common phrase I heard during my first year away at college. It was a fantastic feeling to be from a small town that people were familiar with and have cherished memories of. The excitement I heard from classmates who loved Lake Placid made me excited to return home after finishing my first year. I couldn't wait to return to my favorite spots and was excited to see the new developments in my favorite town. From new restaurants, stores, and adventurous opportunities, the feeling of my history intertwined with new experiences makes for an unforgettable experience here in Lake Placid.

New place to grab a bite

Time to refuel your body with healthy and delicious options at Fresh Tracks on Main Street. This addition is so nice for a “fresh take” on food in Lake Placid. Since being away at school I have had a lot of great healthy options, and coming home, my friends and I were so excited to see this! Acai bowls, refreshing smoothies, and a colorful, vibrant atmosphere make it the perfect spot for a post-adventure pick-me-up, or simply hanging out for lunch with your friends.

New place to play

In the heart of Main Street there is a new and engaging glow. Recently opened, Lake Placid’s new arcade is Faizy’s Fun House. This one-of-a-kind spot is perfect for families, teams, kids and adults alike. Inside, you will find classic and new games, some even based on the 1980 Miracle on Ice making it a must-do activity while in town. On the second floor, there is a 36 tap handle self-pour bar with comfortable booths, a modern atmosphere and even more games.

Faizy’s is a great indoor activity here in Lake Placid. Now with Big Z’s Bowling and Faizy’s, planning nighttime or rainy day activities for the family is a breeze!

A new way to explore

The Adirondack Rail Trail is one of my new personal favorite walking spots. Whether you are walking or biking, this flat, well-maintained path to Saranac Lake, and eventually to Tupper Lake, is an amazing place for fresh air and exercise. No bike? No problem; located directly on the path is Bike Lake Placid, which offers rentals for E-Bikes and unpowered bikes.

The rail trail is a perfect place to disconnect. With mountain views, streams, and ponds, the views will never get old. Whether you are looking for a long bike ride or a quick walk, the rail trail is convenient and perfect for everyone who shares a love of nature and exercise.

Cobble Hill Trailhead and trail improvements

Cobble is one of my favorite hikes right here in town. Aside from the convenient location to downtown Main Street and many surrounding hotels, Cobble also has amazing 360 degree views of Mirror Lake, Whiteface, The Olympic Ski Jumps, the Olympic Oval, and the stunning range of mountains. The new trailhead improvements, located right off of Mirror Lake Drive, include rock made steps for the final stretch to the top, and a wooden walkway for the first portion of the trail, making the trail more accessible for beginner hikers. Cobble Hill still contains some challenging portions of trail, so be sure to come prepared for your adventure!

A new place to stay

Lucky for me, when I am in Lake Placid, I get to sleep in my own bed, but if you are visiting there are a lot of great places to stay. The newest hotel, located in the center of Lake Placid, is the modern and comfortable Cambria Hotel. Ideally located on Lake Placid Lake, and in close proximity to Mirror Lake, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, and Main Street shops and restaurants, Cambria is perfect for any kind of traveler. Offering suite style and family rooms, the Cambria makes for a stylish and functional home base and is even pet-friendly. For dining, Haystack Bar and Bistro has an amazing patio overlooking the mountains and serves breakfast, dinner, and cocktails.

Lake Placid is ever-changing and always welcoming. I am fortunate to call this beautiful place home, with all of the changes the charm of this village remains the same. Join us!
